Lasagne of Emilia-Romagna...

Yes the lasagne is green! VERY GREEN ...and obviously so am I when it comes to making pasta.
6:30 Dan entered the kitchen wondering when the lasagne would be finished
6:45 Dan enters the kitchen and looked at the lasagne very sceptically and made some Shrek comment.

It went downhill from there. I’m sure many of you have been in my situation when you haven’t read the recipe all the way through and estimated the time incorrectly. I figured it would take me a couple of hours to produce this dish but I had trouble with it....lots of trouble. The kind of trouble that makes you frustrated. The sauces were fine...but the hand-made spinach egg pasta - YIKES!

7:00 It kept tearing when I was rolling it out....
7:30 I was finally getting it smooth!
8:00 Dan entered the kitchen wondering when it would be ready....He starts eating cheese and crackers
8:30 He is back...Why does he keep coming back????
9:00 Dan is back again.... I boiled some penne and added some of my meat sauce and had dinner.
9:30 Decided to dry the pasta, assemble it the next day and it would be FABULOUS!
9:45 My next bright idea was to dry the pasta on a wooden clothes drying rack and no, I did not sit it on tea towels or anything. I thought it resembled the pasta drying racks that you see in pictures, but a lot larger. It looked quite interesting with these long pieces of green pasta hanging from it.
3:00 am I heard something fall and Dan reassured me it was probably a pen falling off the table. A pen falling off the table? In the middle of the night? Did we have some unexpected visitors that were moving a table around? I trust him...and go to back to sleep.
8:00 am Go downstairs to get coffee.. it was not a pen!!!! IT WAS THE LASAGNE! ALL OVER THE FLOOR IN PIECES!
Yes, I did complete the challenge with the pieces I could salvage (not all of them fell on the floor) and produced a very very tiny lasagne dish – just enough for the two of us. It was very yummy.
Moral of the story - You should never leave a challenge until the last minute. You can find the recipe on the very new and wonderful site of the Daring Bakers - The Daring Kitchen!

Thanks to Mary, Melinda and Enza for hosting the Daring Bakers Challenge this month. And before I forget, I need to officially say:
The March 2009 challenge is hosted by Mary of Beans and Caviar,
Melinda of Melbourne Larder and Enza of Io Da Grande. They have chosen Lasagne of Emilia-Romagna from The Splendid Table by Lynne Rossetto Kasper as the challenge.

Maybe I will try it again and start earlier...

Until we bake again...
Penny
